They remember that America settled for an armistice [July/26/1953].
That's the danger of politicians
running a war: They'll either settle for a "compromise" rather than "unconditional surrender", or they'll
settle for "peace-talks" after military stalemate, and that leaves an impression with the enemy that America has backed down or hasn't the stomach to pursue
total victory.
That's what President's Truman and
Johnson did in their respective Asian wars...and look what happened?
I'm beginning to believe General MacCarthur was right after all, "There's no substitute for absolute victory."
