They did take portions of Jordan, Syria and Egypt. The West Bank, Golan Heights and Sinai were taken from the aggressors. Although why take territory from Iraq? It doesn't border Israel so taking territory from them wouldn't make much sense.
Do you feel that it was "repugnant and loathsome" what happened to the Germans after WWII? They ended up loosing around a third of their territory, and the large population of the area was forced out. This is the price they paid for loosing. Their "might" wasn't mighty enough. Population relocation is no worse than what this country and the USSR did for forty years. We threaten the entire world with nuclear destruction should one country attack us. Now if we can do that, then Israel claiming a piece of land around the size of Rhode Island shouldn't be that big a deal.
As for might not making right, the history books would disagree with you on that. They were written by the victors after all.
