Note the placement of the small, but critical word 'real' before victors.
Was Soviet Russia, with perhaps 30 million dead in WWII, a victor?
Was the United States a victor? Our losses in the war were only equivalent to the population of a couple cities the size of Des Moines, but that's still a lot of dead, and the costs to our culture, our innocence are still being calculated, and are still accruing.
No, I would argue that all victories are Pyrrhic.
War creates hidden costs, sometimes nothing more than a secret hatred burning in the hearts of the vanquished.
I close with these lines from the Bard:
"The evil that men do live after them;
The good is oft' interred with their bones."
-- Wm. Shakespeare
