To expand their empire that is. Islamic radicals have also been engaged in a war with the West for several decades now. We got lucky on 911, it could have been much worse than it was. Imagine if the Pentagon had taken a direct instead of a glancing blow, the twin towers had tumbled over into lower Manhattan instead of collapsing straight down, and the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania had hit the Capital Building. This country would have been paralyzed for a long time with tens of thousands dead and our Federal government and military decapitated. With the resulting economic collapse, the Islamic SOBs would have been able to push their agenda in the MidEast and elsewhere with no real opposition.

In my opinion this is the result they were after, not only to score a political grand slam, thus greatly swelling their numbers through a propaganda coup, but to do as much damage as possible to the only country with the means and will to stop them. For you to say that this wasn't an attack on America and it's people is a superb example of self induced blindness.
