If the alleged hijackers had really been out to inflict maximum damage to America, then they overflew a much better target as they followed the Hudson River to NYC.
Had this target been chosen, the casualities might have been in the tens or hundreds of thousands, if not more, and a large swath of the Eastern seaboard made unihabitable for centuries.
No, the WTC and Pentagon were chosen as targets out of appreciation for the psychological impact these strikes would have on the American people.
