Trying to predict in a chaotic situation: Israeli-Palestinian conflict drives US politics

Blessed be the peacemakers, and very good news on Hamas, but...

The fundamental problem the US roadmap will run into is that Israeli settlements are on the acquifers in the West Bank and Gaza - This has been a deliberate policvy on the part of the Israeli expansionists, and it has been well funded as a part of their state strategy - Undoing Begin and Netanyahu's policies would be difficult, even if Sharon wanted to... While this is only 225,000 people out of total populations involved in this conflict of some 13,000,000 - 14,000,000, I just don't see any good end coming from any "peace process" - both the Camp David Accords as well as Oslo were pretty well trashed by the Israeli expansionits -

I pray for the best, and will do all I can to encourage those working for peace, but it looks like Bush Jr's only ace in the hole would be a massive UN deployment to the West Bank and Gaza - not a US deployment, not a NATO deployment, but a UN deployment -

My cynical guess is that Sharon will try to ride out the US election cycle, where once again the public will be unable to become informed or vote on a key issue, if not the key issue, for them - viz, think where we would be without the 911 attacks...

Ever get the feeling the we're all just going along for the ride? Is this any way for a US citizen to feel?
