Current Events » in reply to Poll still shows most Americans support Bush.

So?

I find polls like this pretty disturbing, and think they reflect poorly on the American people. They certainly don't vindicate Bush's campaign of disinformation to drum up support for a war on false pretenses.

Large numbers of Americans think we've found WMD in Iraq when in fact we haven't? That's good? A smaller but still signfiicant percentage thinks there's a connection between Saddam Hussein and 9/11, when there's no evidence at all? That's good?

If anything, it adds fuel to the fire of the accusations of a deliberate attempt to mislead the American people--it must be working if people's attitudes are so far out of whack with reality.

When polls are about issues other than Bush's political support, the Right is quick to denounce the ignorance of the American people. Americans can't find North America on a map, believe in UFOs and angels, astrology...the list is endless. Why is ignorance of current events a good thing just because it enhances Bush's chances for reelection?

I also find it disturbing that so few people, especially on the right, are willing to address the question of right or wrong. Just because the mightiest military on the planet by an order of magnitude kicked the ass of a third rate power doesn't make the war retroactively right. I'll put it in the simplest terms possible: It was wrong to attack Iraq on trumped-up charges. It's wrong for any American President to lie to the American people. Try and spin it.
