Compassionate Conservative is an Oxymoron

The problem with your viewpoint, Tom, is that it reduces people to statistics. Statistics don't bleed or die. There are a lot of people out there who have fallen through the cracks and are not getting the health care they need because of belief systems that either choose to deny their existence or simply don't care. I see every day the "I've got mine so fuck you" mentality. It is inherent in our politicians who argue away the day over how to gain political advantage. Well, I've got mine (a good job and great health insurance) and I'd like to see everybody else have the same. But since everybody can't have the same, it is up to the rest of us to see that they have what they need.

An acquaintance has no health insurance. She has diabetes. She can not work because she is too sick to work. She can not afford the diabetes medication. She wasn't needy enough to get into the 'free health care' until her diabetes was so full-fledged, she could no longer work. The 'free' system is so backed up she can't get in to see a doctor to get the meds she needs to... And she can't drive herself to the doctor when she can get in... and so it goes.

She is not a statistic. She is a woman with real needs that should be addressed.
