re: Tom has a point, Robert

"Though, when you think about it, Jesus might be a pretty scary candidate for Republicans, and for a lot of Democrats too."

I don't think Jesus would want the office. It would similar if he decided to become a tax collector. It's like Mozart wanting to be a banker. Or the Pope wanting to be a movie star.
And even if Jesus wanted to be President, I don't know if people would vote for him. What kind of things would he say?
Let's say, he walks on water, performs a bunch miracles- cure the blind, raise the dead, moves mountains or whatever. Some people are going to believe he is the real thing, others are going to think he is not- deny it, think Jesus is actually some demon, alien, or extremely clever con man. So, this could get really nasty. But assuming Jesus does not polarize the nation, say most people peaceful accept Jesus. Do people really want Jesus as the president of the USA? I mean the President's job isn't to bring salvation, rather his job is commander-in-chief of the miltary and is top executive for the exectutive branch of the Federal govt. Doesn't Jesus have better things to do with his time? If Jesus *is here*, don't you think people want him to help them- be better people, get to heaven, relieve their suffering, or whatever petty problems they may have?
Ok, try different track, lets say Jesus is not a messiah, let's say Jesus is a politian- meaning a politian who is enlightened- boy, that's a hard concept to wrap your mind around:). No, let's say Jesus is an enlighten leader of people. What direction is he going to lead towards. Let's say his objective is to make Earth into Heaven. Assuming he simply doesn't wave his hand and transform Earth into Heaven (the obvious question being, "What took you so long to decide to do this?"). So, therefore without the hand waving, we can assume that the people on Earth are going to need to change how they do things. What are people going to need to do? I would say what is needed is lots of good food and lots of good housing. Next, people should find out what they like to do, so they need a good system of education. Next, they should be allowed to do what they want to do- which could include making good food and making good houses.
Now, all of this can be simplified to doing things which makes wealth, which economically, can be translated to creating growth in the economy.
Well, what does this mean? Well, maybe, Greenspan is actually Jesus:).
