Underneath the bickering and hard-hitting, er, 'discussions'- thats what keeps most of us coming back I think. There are many on this board who simply are not only worth listening to, but should be listened to due to their insight, subtlety of views or depth of understanding in maters political. Your posts are always must-reads.

Your comments about violent midwestern culture were very accurate. Small-Oil-Town Oklahoma was much the same way. Violence and aggression earned far more respect than (and in fact was often aimed at) reserved and reflective consideration, empathy and a desire to make the right choice. It is my suspicion (based on what I read and hear of what he says) that the person who inhabits the whitehouse has carried at least some of that mentality into the politics of our nation, and I find that profoundly disturning.
