The true Iraqi patriots are working with the transitional Governing Council and the US/UK authorities

to establish a free, democratic and prosperous Iraq. They are not the terrorists, Baathist jackals, and hired criminals who are attacking the coalition forces who made possible the dream of a new Iraq by removing Saddam Hussein's brutal regime. And need I also point out that the Iraqi Governing Council, even if transitional and limited in power, is the most broad-based and representative governing authority that the nation of Iraq has ever had?? It's a very good first step towards a new constitution, democratic elections, and a new Iraq.

Here's some of those true Iraqi patriots (as opposed to those bastards shooting at coalition troops):

Big demand to serve new Iraqi army

21jul03

HUNDREDS of former Iraqi soldiers and other men jammed enlistment centres across the country at the weekend as the US-led coalition began taking applications for a new Iraqi army.

Hundreds of thousands of former soldiers are out of work since the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime, so competition is tough for the 775 slots in Iraq's first new battalion.

Within two years, coalition officials hope to have nearly 30 battalions in place as "the seed of the future army", said Brigadier Jonathan Riley, of Britain.

Former soldiers accepted for training will be stripped of rank and enter the army as privates. Elite soldiers of the previous regime and Baath Party officials will be excluded.

Enlistees will initially receive $60 a month, be outfitted with light arms and will take over the country's border patrol, checkpoints and eventually other tasks.
