Space/Science » in reply to I Recommend A Writing Class

Sigh...

Even when I agree I have aspersions cast on me. Yeesh.

I conceded the point that it was a mess, and I'm told I need to take a writing course, as if I haven't already, and my job doesn't involves substantial amounts of writing.

I knew it was a mess, but after three days without a response I felt that something was needed, some kind of counterpoint to the counterpoints to my points and counterpoints. Was I happy with it? Not entirely. But the situation seems to be evolving in unexpected and surprising ways, and it never hurts to have your thought memes out there in the big debate.

I tried to at least keep the comment markers consistent throughout, my comments absent such markers of course. I also tried to put in names or abbreviations at the beginning of each person's comment but I didn't proof it for consistency in that.

My advice would have been to slow down, perhaps use chapter or section titles, and try to link back to the other sections better.

I agree on breaking it down by subtopic (although that may necessitate a little bit of back and forth between posts), but I'd rather address everyone's comments on a particular topic within a post. I really don't have the time to answer one person at a time on one topic at a time. I have a lot of other demands on my time, and limited access to the Internet.

I guess the more reasons you propose for doing something the more you open yourself up to attack on a lot of fronts. Best to keep everything short and simple and easily adapted to PP pitches.

Most sincerely,
/s/ Ken Murphy
