I have not hunted since I was a teenager, but I have no objection so long as they eat what they kill. Elk is probably the best tasting meat I've ever had. I'd pay $10 a pound for it if it were for sale. I personnally find hunting for trophies obscene.
From people I know who hunt, a wild turkey is very challenging game. They're barely the same species as the domesticated turkey, which is one of the dumbest animals on Earth. I've heard that, if it starts raining, they've been known to lean back their heads to get a drink, only to be too stupid to put their heads back down and dying. I've seen wild turkeys from a vehicle on a few occassions, but never for more than a few seconds. They're very elusive, which means they're pretty intelligent.
On the subject of domesticated turkeys, a former boss of mine is a retired Air Force navigator, primarily on B-52s and FB-111s. He told me a story one time about how a 3 plane B-52 formation took a shortcut one day and overflew a turkey farm at low altitude. The resulting stampede killed some 50,000 turkeys. All Air Force chow halls had plenty of turkey that year.
