I was at work. My admin (we had them back then) told me that she heard on the radio that the shuttle blew up. Devastating. There was no web to go look at pictures or read the latest news. Went out to a restaurant at lunch to see the replays. Saw them on the TV news that night.
On the downside, we were besieged with lots of jokes like NASA means "Need Another Seven Astronauts".
Never did like those SRBs.
