re: School Project:What do you remember....

I had sneaked out of work to go to my car and listen to the launch on my hand held ham radio on which a local repeater rebroadcasts NASA audio. I remember things seemed to be going fine and then I heard the FTTTT sound of the static as it exploded. I thought that was unusual, but the commentary was still giving velocity and altitudes, so I was not concerned. Then I heard him say "obviously a major malfunction". I turned on the am radio to KNX and heard a reporter describing the debris falling out of the sky. I was suddenly numb. I went back inside to tell my friends at work, but they had already heard and were listening on a radio there. I called my wife to make sure the VCR had recorded it as I had set the timer before leaving for work. She has put in another tape and let it record the rest of the day. At lunch I went to my brothers place to see it on TV and only then did I realize there was no chance for any survivors. The rest of the day is a blur. A day I will never forget.
