Did I miss something?

My new schedule keeps me from indulging, as I once did, in habitual listening to the news, so I may have missed the spontaneous public outpourings of grief and support, in the streets of America, for the victims of the Spanish train bombing. I may have missed our President saying "We're all Spaniards. . ."

But somehow I doubt it.

That being said - the reason I'm posting here, as opposed to elsewhere in this thread, is to comment on this:

Our spectacular failure, "the war on drugs", is the exception that proves how ineffective it is.

We've had more than one spectaular failure by trying to wage "war" on intangible concepts. The "War on Poverty" was another. I suspect there's something deeply ingrained in the American psyche assuring us that all we have to do to defeat something we don't like is to have a war against it - a shooting war, if at all possible - while forgetting that our record in shooting wars is not what it once was.

Terrorism is a mode of behavior, not any particular ideology. Raoul is absolutely correct when he says terrorism cannot be defeated by the military invasion of sovereign nations.
