from

appease

TRANSITIVE VERB: 1. To bring peace, quiet, or calm to; soothe. 2. To satisfy or relieve: appease one's thirst. 3. To pacify or attempt to pacify (an enemy) by granting concessions, often at the expense of principle.

I'm not exactly sure why Ed is still boiling mad over Neville Chamberlain - my guess is, he wasn't even born at the time. But, in his usual rabid way, he's siezed this word and won't let it go, despite the fact that he's misusing it. It apparently pisses Ed off that [a] the application of massive military force won't work; he can't convince everyone that it will by interminably repeating it; so he brandishes "appeasement" in the hope it will inflame others' passions to match his own.

The simple truth is, Al Quaeda hasn't issued a list of demands that, if met, would cause them to cease what they do. There's no appeasing them, or others like them; no concessions to be granted. If Ed weren't so concentrated in denial of his own, he might recognize this in others:

[b]fanatic

NOUN: A person marked or motivated by an extreme, unreasoning enthusiasm, as for a cause.
