I wish I had a nickel for every time I heard this from someone who has just finished an hour-long diatribe on how America is the worst thing that ever happened to the world, that all the pain in the world is America's fault, and that they sympathize with the hatred our enemies feel for us.
In their eyes, there is nothing at all that America can do, or has done, right.
You know what this is starting to sound like?
The picture I get is of a man standing next to his wife. Her eyes are blackened, teeth are missing, one arm is in a sling, and there are bruises all over her from her husband's fists. Her eyes are downcast, and won't meet yours, or anyone else's.
Yet the husband declares that no one on Earth could love his wife more than he does.
Yeah. Right.
It is not a coincidence that so many call for endless apologies and self-abasement from America. At least our enemies are honest enough to simply wish our destruction. Our so-called friends want America to be on her knees, with her face in the dirt, consumed by a slave mentality that endlessly begs the indulgence of people and nations that have not contributed a fraction of what America has towards peace, progress, and civilization in the world.
The wife abuser probably feels the same way toward his wife. She belongs on her knees, with her head bowed in the self-hatred that makes her feel she deserves this treatment.
There is honest criticism, and there is unceasing vile hatred, and believe me, it's not hard to tell the difference. It's not that our flaws are shown--it is important that our flaws be exposed and discussed--it's the sheer joy that some people take in our flaws. And that is becoming pretty obvious in places like the media, among our cultural gurus, and others.
