When I am dealing with people who want me dead, my civilization destroyed, and my daughter to be property, I want our side to be overwhelmingly more powerful than theirs. I want tanks to their bows and arrows, photon torpedoes where they have slingshots. I want our side to have the snooperscopes, the drones, the chemical sniffers, and the magic powers. I want the casualty count in any battle to be our side, zero, their side, six hundred.
This offends the sensibilities of those who are convinced to the marrow of their bones that if only Hitler and the rabbis could have sat down over a nice cup of chamomile tea and Talked Things Over, a lot of unpleasantness could have been avoided.
