Current Events » in reply to Moore's film taken as Gospel?

hmm, seemed like refreshing entertainment to me. Do you take Tom Brokaw as gospel?

I so agree that Moore pushed his point by glamorizing Iraqi life prior to the invasion but let's certainly not let the broadcast networks off easily either. I watched religiously the newscasts from all American channels during the Iraq war and was deeply disturbed we were seeing a very cleansed view of the procedings. One only need turn to the international news stations to see what the rest of the world was seeing. Yes, there were still the shock and awe images of the bombs bursting and the glory of the blitzing US troops but occassionally you'd see the dead Iraqi soldier or civilian child blown to shreds by an errant bomb. Our media was lead like a bull with a ring through its nose during the carnage, told exactly what video they could release and the news agencies, scared to death they'd lose the great ride-along access they had been granted, very rarely tried to lose those boundaries. In many ways I truly understand their motivations. Had they bucked the military and tried to present a more balanced view, the competing stations would've absolutely scooped them as they sat off on the far sidelines straining to get in on the instant action.

I think Michael Moore saw that too and realized that the only way to balance the might of our government was to play just as unfairly. I certainly hope so at least. He just simply doesn't seem to me to be a person bent on his own political power or only interested in the bottom line financially. Certainly documentaries are not the path to huge riches. I think the man is simply angry and frustrated with what little power we have as individuals in a country filled with powerful corporations and political blocs and is using the only weapons he has against them. Long live humor, sarcasm and political irony.
