Tom, please. There you go again trying to pigeon-hole me into your vision of some mindless bot that can't make up my own opinion. I have looked into Michael Moore's past and have read countless dissenting opinions of his work. I also have the ability to step outside my own leanings and look at things objectively, that there's a great deal of money and power to be made at what he does and that any message he delivers must be greeted with skepticism.
And please read my post before going off like that. I did not put down Tom Brokaw but simply said that the coverage of all the stations during the Iraq war was not a balanced account. The networks and their anchors were force fed what they could view and report on by the military. Of course there was good reason for some of the censorship. You obviously don't want to tip off troop movements to the enemy or show blown up servicemen before their next of kin have been notified.
I just simply said that, under those conditions, where the government is controlling the mainstream news during a conflict that effects us all so profoundly, that it's refreshing to have any other vision of things from outside the inner circle of the news media. I also said that I understand the man's motivation if his intent is simply to educate people as to those gaps in coverage he might perceive. There are some scenes at the beginning of the movie, where he shows video of violent disruptions to the motorcade going to GWB's innauguration that never made it to my television set. There are interviews with soldiers in Iraq where it is plain that these servicemen are putting themselves in great jeopardy to get some of the frustrations they're having off their minds.
Those types of interviews never make it to the nightly news. You'd think if Tom Brokaw was balanced he'd be getting this same feedback if he asked the right questions. To be fair you also don't see the news organizations asking the people there what's right.
If you feel that Moore is unfairly representing the big picture, why don't you produce your own documentary? Could it be that your view is already getting out in deluges on talk radio? Does it really threaten you that the public is getting the alternative viewpoint? If so then maybe introspection is the answer, not attacking the messenger.
