Why did they take so long to release the story?

If concerns about Sandy Berger's improper and apparent illegal handling of highly classified information were first raised last October, why are we just now hearing about it? Which is more important, the apparent seriousness of the charge or the timing of the release?

I have no idea who released the story or why. I do see a double standard on the part of the Press in how they are handling this story verses any allegation against someone in the Bush administration.
