First of all, I think he misrepresents Tolkein, and I wonder if he's read any more of the total opus than the LotR trilogy itself.

Second: he's Welsh. He may secretly consider those bloody Saxons to still be alien to British soil, not to mention the Romans, Angles, Jutes, Danes, Vikings, Normans . . .
