All true, but what have they done in the last 800 years?

I don't see this as particularly relevant to today's issues, except for one important point: that a tolerant and progress-oriented Muslim civilization is possible. Maybe if Muslim leaders held the tolerance of their own history up as an ideal instead of the destruction of all that is non-Muslim, we might see some progress.
