Yoiu know, if I could just sweep aside the fog of nobility that has gotten so thick around here, can we all admit that both parties are doing their damnedest to make sure by any legitimate means that their voters turn out in greater numbers than the opposition's?
I still remember the Democrats trying to shut out the military vote on a technicality. Almost at the same time, they were examining chads through a microscope on ballots that would have been thrown out in any normal election, and claiming that "every vote is sacred."
The tables around my neighborhood have signs on them saying "Democrats register here," or "Republicans register here." Obviously, anyone can register at either place, but there's still a subtle barrier there, isn't there? Especially if the potential voter isn't too bright.
So, let's lose the haloes, shall we? They never look very good on politicians.
