Go ahead. We need less attention to the law in this country.
1. The Prison Reform Advocacy Center is a non-partisan organization. Its object is to reintegrate ex-convicts into the community. One gets less recidivism that way. Not to mention the fact that, in order to teach justice, one has to practice it.
2. The tables around your neighborhood, I'm willing to bet money, are not run by governmental agencies, if they have partisan signs on them. Anyone can set up a voter registration table. All they need to do is get a pile of registration forms from the courthouse (they're free) and a roll of first-class stamps from the Post Office. Oh, and an assortment of blue or black pens.
The subject is governmental obstruction of people who are allowed to vote. It's not about whether political parties are looking for "their" voters.
3. Re: the military votes in Florida: Which are you suggesting? Two wrongs make a right, or the famous nursery school excuse of "He did it, so I can do it too"?
4. The insinuation is that only Democrats would recruit ex-convicts because Democrats are more at home with criminals. I suppose it would depend on the kind of criminal. If the criminal is guilty of looting the retirement fund of the corporation of which he was CEO, or if he ran a savings and loan into the ground, or if he was complicit in price fixing of a commodity (say, electricity in California), maybe this is the kind of criminal with whom Democrats are less acquainted.
Over the past several decades, Democrats have attempted to represent people who are not represented. Ex-convicts are not only not represented, but there is apparently an effort out there to make sure they are not even heard from. If the law says they may be heard from, let's hear from them.
5. At the risk of sounding too foggy,
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for justice,
for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.
Matthew 5: 6,7
It continues to disappoint me that people with such an attachment to Christianity as an ideological weapon should be so reluctant to apply its core teachings in real-world situations. I wish I could say I was surprised.
