Teaching morality in schools
Morality is subjective Tom. In Saudi Arabia, their version of morality is that killing people over ideaology is a moral thing to do especially if they're Jewish. At one time the morality in this country condoned slavery.
Religion and culture can subvert morality so that it no longer matches up with common sense and basic ethics. I'd prefer they are the things taught in our schools. Perhaps if we stop telling children that this is the set of rules that God laid down for them and instead taught them the historical, sociological, and psychological origins of basic ethics, our children wouldn't be so confused by the mixed messages we send their way.
