Moore

There were happy children playing in the South before the Civil War, too. All white. That there was an elite that did quite well under Saddam goes without saying, but if you weren't Sunni and part of the ruling classes, it was a whole different story. Why do you think the Sunnis are so pissed now?

There was no voice to the other side during the buildup to war in Iraq.

Really? The millions marching in the streets meant nothing? The protests in the United Nations? Nobody griped about America going to war?

Please don't try to make Michael Moore into a noble figure. The man is a venal thug who has found that anti-Americanism sells like hotcakes among the cultural elite, and is making the most of it. He rode a trend. He didn't create it.

He's what Abbie Hoffman would have been if Abbie Hoffman had been insanely greedy for money. Whatever else you might say about Abbie Hoffman (I still have an old copy of "Steal This Book") he was consistent about his revolutionary attitudes.

If Michael Moore was for real as a "man of the people," with the accumulated cash load from his movie and book sales, he would be distributing free books and movies, and speaking at campuses without sticking them for thirty thousand dollars.

Now imagine yourself as a filmmaker that truly believed we were headed down the wrong path and faced with such a powerful force where rational discussion would simply be steamrolled. To put out some balanced film that played to all sides would've simply resulted in art that was not noticed. Bush had pushed falsehoods and exaggerations on the American people and to counter that one had to fight hard with every tool of emotion and shock at their disposal.

It's interesting that you can almost in the same sentence justify lies and distortions in the service of a "greater cause," while deriding Bush's sales job on defeating tyranny in the Middle East. ;)
