I will concede that the Left is not alone in this, and that the Right has also turned blind eyes to dictators and atrocities when politically convenient. That doesn't excuse it.
Alright, then cut out the labels then Tom. They alienate and polarize. Maybe it'd be a little better to say "Some people on both sides of the political spectrum do this...." instead of branding an entire ideaological group with some blanket statement.
And who in the hell said that children shoved into mass graves was irrelevant? It's despicable that it happened but that doesn't diminish any single wrongful death today. The point of this thread was not to debate the pretext of deposing a horrible dictator but to instead show that there are substantial risks if we don't win both the military and public relations sides of our attacks.
By the way, those images in Fahrenheit 9/11 of the Iraqi children playing were taken days before the invasion by a film crew he sent in. On the just-released DVD, a much more comprehensive extra is included that has more of the images they captured. Of course he had no video of beatings and murders and he picked and chose the scenes that supported his assertions. And you have to remember what the administration was showing us regarding Iraqi life prior to the invasion. We got the polar opposite. Perhaps Moore simply wanted to give some balance to the one very slanted side we were being fed.
There was no voice to the other side during the buildup to war in Iraq. The psyche was this gung-ho, we are the champions macho that permeated everything we saw. Now imagine yourself as a filmmaker that truly believed we were headed down the wrong path and faced with such a powerful force where rational discussion would simply be steamrolled. To put out some balanced film that played to all sides would've simply resulted in art that was not noticed. Bush had pushed falsehoods and exaggerations on the American people and to counter that one had to fight hard with every tool of emotion and shock at their disposal.
I wonder how many death threats Moore has had since he set out on his path.
