I never said that only civilians are being killed in the bombings. My worry is that if you blow it in even a small percentage of the attacks, the public relations damage you create can completely offset the gains of the successful raids.
Remember Tom, that if our enemy is terrorism, then our enemy is a tactic and mindset, not some given set of men or a nation. The tactic of terrorism thrives on the target being overly reactive to their attacks. A good illustration is Israel who, by all ethical guidelines, has the complete right and the moral justification to hunt down and destroy the people behind the terrorist attacks on its civilians. The problem Tom, is that Israel isn't getting anywhere. As clinical and precise as their raids into Palestine are, the numbers of people that hate them only builds everytime they send in the tanks or aircraft. At some point you have to get to the root of the hatred and even before that point you have to have credibility with your intended audience.
As feel good as it is to imagine that this macho position of strength is all you need for credibility and respect, it simply doesn't pan out in studies of human nature even when applied to Mideast culture.
