re: good points....but

"Along with those news bits on Arab TV, they also have blips of our President with his sound bites linking Saddam and terrorism or insisting that the WMD's were there all along. It seems to me that Bush ought to be making weekly addresses to the people of Iraq and the Mideast, directly talking to them about the successes and failures and admitting with some humility the difficulty of the tasks."

Why should it be the US president? Why not other people, like Powell or say the president of Iraq. Or even the 4 star generals those region this concerning. But in any case more effort should be put in trying to get on Arab TV- though probably best to have those who are fluent in Arabic and understand enough of the culture.

"And why can't we have infrared videos of the comings and goings to a potential target from hidden ground observers prior to a strike to discredit their claims of weddings and civilian gatherings? Who in the hell is in charge of our propaganda team there? In my eyes they are doing a miserable job. Simply having some general get up and answer questions at a news conference after a disputed strike with assurances that their intel was correct is easily countered in the Arab and world media. "

Well, it would be costly.
But it might be worth it.
First you have a lot of these attacks- are you going to try to capture them all on video? Second you can't be doing this from just a few locations. Now, if snipers and forward observer had this as part of their weapon systems and if this equipment was not too bulky so as to interfere with their operations it might make sense. But just to put soldiers out there just to take videso would add that more risk of soldiers getting killed- though it might be worth having say 20 additional soldiers per year dying from such operations.
