"When I was a child, raised a Catholic in Catholic schools, I was forbidden from attending other religious services, especially the heretic Protestant ones. In the spirit of ecumenism, Catholicism will now recognize other prayers, but will not recognize other religious services or sacraments. And there are quite a few old-school Catholics who, yes, are offended by having to listen to heretic prayers."
Well, then don't you see- it's your religious beliefs which are the source of your POV. Catholics didn't want religion to get out of the church. But because technology allowed the common folk to own their own bibles, religion could be taken outside the church- hence the Protestant religion. Why should other religions be force to the Catholic way of seeing faith?
Being neither Protestant or Catholic allows me to not have this bias. So you are wrong- stop imposing your religion on other folks:).
