I haven't been a member of any organized religion since 1974.
One of the reasons I quit is precisely over this issue.
My background and upbringing in no way negates the fact that to inject religious elements into public events paid for by public money held on public property also paid for by public money, or to place sectarian artifacts in areas paid for and maintained by public money violates the Establishment Clause and transforms civil society into a society in which the majority religion has full citizenship and the minority religions have the right to shut up.
