re: Blue babies

Again, for every situation there is an anecdote which proves that without the government all is lost. Since you could come up with one for every single discussion of government power versus individual choice, the obvious answer is that government power should be infinite. Hell, any individual choice could get somebody hurt. And when government programs hurt people, it doesn't count.

Okay, I'm just getting nasty again.

Ramping it back down a bit...

Somewhere there's a line between making a law that says your septic tank has to be downhill from your well, and a law making me a criminal if I don't fasten my seat belt.

There's a line between government college loans for veterans back from the wars, and a Federal budget of over two trillion dollars where well over half of it is straight wealth redistribution for no value returned.

If you want to know my main gripe, it's that I don't like where the lines are now.

I think the lines should be moved back a bit.

And I'm constantly confronted by people who, with proposals like turning medical care over to the government, want to move that line forward at fifty miles an hour. I know what's at the far end of that direction, and people used to climb walls covered with barbed wire to get out of such places.

It's disturbing to me that there are groups and people for which every last problem has the same answer: more power and wealth pumped to the government. Some problems can be fixed by doing the opposite.
