Nobody is advocating throwing the elderly off Medicare.
But when solutions are proposed to start putting the brakes on the entitlement runaway train, how about meeting them halfway?
Look at all the shit Bush is getting for advocating redirecting even a tiny fraction of Social Security into self-directed retirement funds. Do you honestly think those protests are because of concern for the elderly and their families, especially given the potential benefits?
This isn't about money, or generosity. It's about political power, and certain politicians who visualize every citizen as a ward of the state.
