Bandaids for hemmorhages
If people swoop in, throw a bunch of "help", say "Mission Accomplished", and swoop out again, they have no grounds to expect change, let alone improvement and gratitude.
Without consistency, trust and follow-up, there is only a continuation of the pattern of hello and goodbye that marks the lives of people in trouble. If they have no one to blame but themselves, they have no one but themselves anyway. Which is kind-of the point.
It's the circular part that applies, not the logic.
