Government regulation

I think a vast majority of government regulations in modern times result simply from the natural tendency of governments to accumulate power and wealth to themselves, and increase their own size. No bureaucracy ever put itself out of business.

If government did not control so much of business, there would be no incentive for businesses to try and control governments.

Right now, the government has the power of life and death over even the largest corporations. Bill Gates, who used to pretty much ignore politics, found this out the hard way. He's learned a thing or two now. I think I liked him better when he didn't care about politics.

It's not unusual that corporations want to make sure they have something to say about how that power is used.

I don't like it, but it's an inevitable result of a mixed economy. The final terminal on that train line is a state where there is no real difference any more between government and business. We've seen how that works.

The scales don't balance when both weights are on the same side.
