Before capitalists behaved so badly it could not continue to be ignored, there were no anti-trust laws and other regulations.
You think they have learned their lesson? I don't. I look at Walmart's history of non-support of its workers (who are internal customers, are they not?) and at the current problems with workers' pensions being looted by the corporations they work for. I have a friend, 38 years old, with a torn rotator cuff from working in a factory. This is a common injury there. The company fights workman's comp claims tooth and nail, and does nothing to fix conditions to alleviate this and other repetitive stress injuries.
Yeah, there's that anecdote again. You want to look her in the eye and tell her that her health is less important than capitalism? She's not like me: she'll deck you with her good arm.
Sure, there are good businesses who look out for their workers and respect their customers. I'm sorry they suffer. I'm not willing to throw people like my friend to the wolves, though.
