No ax to grind here!
What was the text of the proposition, and what is the substance of the lawsuit(s)?
Is there provision made for non-drivers?
How stringient is the process for getting a driver's license?
Is there provision for issuance of free state IDs, at state offices open on Saturdays? One of the major things we have learned since we began to accept passport applications is that people are very grateful to be able to see to such things on weekends. Quite a few people can't afford to take time off of work during the work week to attend to requirements of this sort for themselves, let alone for an older or infirm family member.
Will absentee ballots also require ID? How will that work, since the absentee ballot is by definition cast by someone who is absent?
It's one thing to make a requirement. It's another to specify how this will work in an equitable fashion.
I think that, ideally, a literacy requirement would be a good thing to attach to voting rights, except that I know that the ideal -- everyone should be informed when they vote -- and the reality -- otherwise intelligent people who had little education will be excluded -- diverge considerably.
