Community
There are a lot of freedoms that only seem to work well when they are founded on a cultural foundation of morals and values, not just laws and regulations. Community, family, all that. Sounds trite, but that doesn't make it untrue.
Middle America used to mean leaving your doors unlocked. There's a lot more to it than that, of course.
