R.L. Said:
"The difference between religion and science is that religion punishes questioning, science rewards those that that overthrow established beliefs"
J-- I have not found, from my experience, that "religion punishes questioning" . I have always seen religion as generating questions, sure there are dogmatic thinkers in religion as well as all other avenues of human activity.
Humans have the ability to "believe" that they are right about their viewpoint and they are very reluctant to change their views.
For instance take you R.L., you are very reluctant to "allow" your view points to be changed, especially in matters that you "believe" to be an "expert" in.
I fit into the same category, that is, if I truly "believe" something, then it is very difficult for someone to change my view point.
Sometimes it happens that two people argue about the same thing from different perspectives. That is what happened when we were arguing about the "radiation in the atmosphere". I stated (what I believe to be facts) that radioactivity in the atmosphere can accelerate the atmospheric molecules and IF the molecules have enough velocity they can escape from the Earth's gravitational field.
You inserted some numbers into your argument and stated something to the effect that, the numbers show that such effect would be minuscule. I still do not believe your argument, simply because your numbers DID NOT come from measurements and observations of the upper atmosphere.
I inserted a link to a NASA site that showed that the Earth's atmosphere IS being lost into space but you ignored that information.
R.L.-- "Those that say god is responsible are on the same plane as Lindy, who claims some secret program using forces she has no clue about somehow did it..."
J-- I think that Lindy is questioning IF the forces she has no clue about somehow were responsible. And she does not seem to be afraid of the "punishment" that may be inflicted on her by "science". You R.L on the other hand are dismissing the information that Lindy presents without knowing much more about the "forces" than she does.
Granted that since you work with lasers, you SHOULD know more about electromagnetic propagation, resonance, wave interference, atomic structure, electronics, and perhaps some other areas of knowledge, but unless you have applied all this knowledge base to the very low frequencies that are discussed in Lindy's "question", then the information that you are presenting is less useful than that of Lindy's question.
Yes the disaster may indeed be the result of human activity, but perhaps not in the previously speculated way.
Instead and perhaps my speculation is correct.
Take the "radiation in the atmosphere" argument and continue with the hypothesis.
Since the Earth's atmosphere is being lost into space then it follows that the atmospheric pressure will decrease, if the atmospheric pressure decreases then the difference (balance) between the earth's internal pressure and the external atmospheric pressure will be more pronounced. If the pressure difference increases, then the "weaker" areas of the Earth will be the first ones to respond to the increased stress. Perhaps the atmospheric pressure has been weakening more rapidly in our "atomic age" and the weakest point in the Earth's crust is in the area where the Earthquakes are happening.
If this speculation turns out to be true, then you will see more devastating Earthquakes and storms in the future.
