Star Trek problems

Hi All

"Enterprise" tried to address some of the plot holes in the old "Star Trek" by giving a better idea of how far apart the stars are - the multi-year freighter flights and the nine-year flight to Terranova for the first colonists. They kind of tripped over their own feet with all the early encounters with aliens from the later series and missed a very cool potential plot-line - the Romulan War!

Interestingly the episode "Favorite Son" has an implicit warp-speed index of 4.5 versus the canonical 3 in "Broken Bow" - and that allows more realistic journey times. Instead of 100 c, "Enterprise" is doing ~ 1400 c meaning it really can take a 15 light year diversion to Vega without taking months to do so. Freighters are doing ~ 14 c instead of a piddling 5.832, so 5 years takes them well past the 20 light year radius of "Terranova".

Pity all the other inconsistencies never got fixed.
