re: Enterprise
Some episodes weren't bad, and some were pretty good, but the creators just couldn't wrap themselves around the idea of creating a pre-Kirk universe. There were just too many good bits they really wanted to use, not only from Kirk's time, but from the Next Generation universe.
They tried their damnedest, but the transporter, supposedly experimental at this point, was just too useful to put off for long, and then we started seeing races and things that Kirk never knew about, theoretically in our local star neighborhood.
Continuity across the Trek history was never easy.
The whole time travel arc sucked. Big time.
