Capitalism is not all good, nor all bad. It is greed epitomized, however, and needs checks.
"greed opitomized" -- a clear and true assessment
We've all seen in the recent past what happens when Fallible Human Beings have the opportunity to manipulate the system. Enron, WorldCom, etc., etc., and etc.
These are just the ones who have been caught. What about the rest of them that are still getting away with it? There surely many more of them.
To say that the unrestricted marketplace with it's emphasis on short-term gains at the cost of anything else is the best economic system is to ignore human nature.
Bingo! Short-term gains over all else. That defines modern capitalism.
And there is so much information on that out there it doesn't need endless citations.
By the way, has KennyBoy gone to trial yet?
Not yet.
Why not, do you suppose?
Two reasons:
1. His lawyers are trying to delay trial until after his death.
2. The prosecutor wants an airtight case before he goes to trial.
If it were up to me, Ken Lay and the rest of his partners in crime would be shot. Not imprisoned, but shot. After somebody steals billions of dollars, a term of prison, no matter how long, is not enough, in my opinion. However, I would settle for a life without parole sentence, which he will NOT get.
