The basic premise of incompetance is "Ignore problems because they tend to go away and if they don't blame someone else". I can't stand that attitude. I have made big increases in productivity through a few big improvements and a lot of eliminating the recurrence of nagging problems that pop up from time to time. I saw many people in management at my former employer with "people skills" and little technical skill. Unfortunately a lot of the people skills were sucking up to their boss rather than getting the most out of their subordinates and coworkers. Technical people without people skills are a pain in the ass, but do a better job running things in my opinion than office politicians without competance. Fortunately there were a fair number of managers at that company with both. Unfortunately not enough to keep the company from being in permanent cost cutting mode since a really stupid acquisition.

Mark
