In all fairness, many do work for the small pay they recieve. many are very well qualified, Phd's, business leaders, economists, etc... But for every director who actually takes the job seriously, and does it well, there are one or two figureheads appointed just for name recognition and political graft (ie Hillary Clinton).
In cases where a company goes south like Enron, the directors should be right up there facing jail time...They violated their fiduciary duty to the shareholders. I think to be a director, you should be required to be at least a 1% shareholder in an organization...And it should be your personal funds that are used to by the shares...
Unfortunatly, the Directors usually get lost in the shuffle and skate any blame. They lose nothing. The shareholders lose everything.

- Good idea
- If they want a pay increase, they have to increase everyone else's at the same time, vice versa with pay cuts
- "stiffing their workers"
