The silly thing is you don't even have to be an old-timer anymore. I am 31 and remember growing up with a party line we shared with my grandparents across the street. Our first 2 tvs were black and white. Music was generally layed from the record player. We like to listen to the 45's on 72 speed because it sounded like the chipmunks. I remember watching the an early (possibly the first) shuttle launch from TV. We used to rent the VCR from Blockbuster whenever we rented videos. My dad was a school teacher who had access to the AV room, so normally he just brought home the projector and a few spools of film and we watched the movies on our living room wall. Likewise my dad brought home an Apple II computer every summer. I think the Apple IIc was the first I remember. Later we got our first home computer TI 48 with a voice synthesizer. Programs were run from the cassette player. Hunt the Wumpus was a favorite, till we got the Commodore 64. The first DOS based computer was an 8088. You had to load the operating system first in 5 1/4" Floppy drive A, then your program in Floppy drive B. We upgraded the 256K of Ram to 512K of Ram so I could play Microsoft Flight Simulator. A friend did it for us by soldering new RAM in. I remember when the CD came out. The first year everybody said they were impervious to scratching. Hah. I thought my oldest brother was a God when he bought his first PC. 486 DX with 4MB Ram and RAM cost $100 per MB. I played Wolfenstein for hours on the thing. This was when I was in college. It wasn't THAT long ago.
