Okay. I'm seeing the problem here.
Your post:
Very good point. Climate change deniers like to argue for symmetry, that the opinions of the corporate scientists and the opinions of the majority of scientists are equally distorted by self-interest.
But when you follow the money you discover the impressive scale of that Big Lie. The polluting businesses that hire their pet scientists have something tangible and easy to understand on the table: Money. And the other side? They're described as wanting to "destroy American capitalism" and "they just hate America"...mushy and intangible and essentially meaningless non-explanations that can't possibly provide a motivation for thousands of scientists working for hundreds of institutions.
Occam's Razor: Those denying climate change are motivated by crass self-interest to lie. The scientists who are trying to warn us about climate change are trying to warn us about climate change.
The point apparently being made in this post is that those who are skeptical of the current global warming panic are motivated by money. And scientists are not motivated by money, right? We'll leave aside the dog-eat-dog battles for grants for now.
Of course, there are other things than money that might drive scientists, including fame, academic honors, and science awards.
James Hansen has been in newspapers, on 60 Minutes, and in Time magazine. For someone who NASA is supposedly shutting up, he has gotten wider exposure than any global warming skeptic ever had. That must feel kind of good. And all for punching the Bush administration in the nose. Don't know if he's getting any money out of it, but like I say, not all less-than-noble motivations are about money, which is the point I was trying to make.
Hey, Jimmy Carter got a Peace Prize for kicking Bush in the knee. How much longer before PC starts to steer the science prizes, too?
Did you follow the goddam stem cell controversy at all? Cloning? Damn STRAIGHT scientists will lie to get themselves written up as leaders in their field.
And as I've carefully and patiently explained elsewhere, showing examples, it isn't mostly the scientists making anti-capitalist political hay out of the scientific work. It's the usual gangs of idiots that were fighting for the "workers" before they found it more productive to fight for "the environment." And for the most part, not a scientist among them.
