"The Nazis are the extreme of conservatism, just as the Communists are the extreme of liberalism."
It is this sentence in...
my post's original response...
to the Techster's comment...
on Lindy's opening move...
that Tom objected to,
launching a half-dozen broadsisdes on political definition and the usual ideological gargonzola. If you read carefully between the lines , you will note that it was a merely a throw-away concilatory line meant to defuse the tension between SDAI and Lindy so I could could make some (I thought) rather neutral and non-controversial comments on propaganda and how it relates to cartography.
Tom, as usual, never got past my first sentence and launched into one of his harangues, desperately trying to stamp every vestige of anything that might conceivably challenge any of his notions, effectively hijacking the thread off into the ozone. Like a fool, I felt compelled to pick up the gauntlet. Cartography and propaganda techniques (my original reasons for entering this thread in the first place, since they combine two separate but related interests of mine) soon fell by the wayside and we eventually wound up discussing the intellectual merits of Robert Heinlein and other irrelevant, pointless and unprovable inanities before I called a stop to it.
Tom made a gentlemanly effort to calm things down but I can see it's starting up all over again, and will continue erupting like this to the last syllable of recorded time. I think I'm going to play somewhere else, where the kids don't put rocks in their snowballs.
Oh, and by the way, the Nazi's ARE the logical extension of conservative philosophy.
