"The thesis is based on common sense: People who hate government will produce incompetent government when they're in power."
Hmm and according to "common sense" would:
People who hate a nation will produce incompetent nation when they're in power.
or perhaps:
People who hate a nation will produce hateful nation when they're in power.
or how about:
People who lie to a nation will produce lying nation when they're in power.
It could "explain" much the Dems problems.
Republicans of course don't hate govt, maybe they hate a large incompetent wasteful govt. The people who hate our govt are ones insulting this nation, the people disrespecting it's duly elected leadership. For example those people claiming Bush stole the election. Or those people who need to "expose govt secerts" which results in not helping in any way but only damaging this nation.
Those hating Bush, are people hating a person who is most prominent in representing American's govt and who has been elected twice by our system of electing our leadership.
As far as polls go. Show me you are a not complete fool by giving past poll results of similar poll question regarding congress.
Here's a different measure of our nation:
"The misery index was initiated by Chicago Economist Robert Barro in the 1970's. It is simply the unemployment rate added to the inflation rate. It is assumed that both a higher rate of unemployment and a worsening of inflation both create economic and social costs for a country. A combination of rising inflation and more people of out of work implies a deterioration in economic performance and a rise in the misery index."

Finally, who said "The era of big govt is over"
Was Clinton a goverment hater also?
Or we going to get into the question of what the definition is of "is" is.
